Calls for President and Prime Minsiter to testify in 11 February shootings case fall on deaf ears

JSMP: Ramos Horta and Xanana should testify Timor Post March  2 2010  language source: Tetun -  The director of the Judicial System Monitoring Program (JSMP), Luis de Oliveira said that Jose Ramos Horta and Xanana Gusmao should appear before the court to make their testimonies before the court makes its decision on the February 11th case.

“It is a point of concern that those who became direct victims of the case such as the President of the Republic and Prime Minister have not testified though they are key figures in the case,” said de Oliveira.

De Oliveira also said that the lawyers for the defendants should ask the court to summons both political leaders before the court prior to its verdict.

Recently President Horta said that the court could ask his accompanying physician, Dr. Rui de Araujo, regarding the veracity of his wound.

However, Dr. Rui said that he has not yet authorised by his patient to speak on his behalf.
