Lawyer for twenty three Timor rebels has planned to make appeal to the court

Radio Timor-Leste, March 5, 2010 language source: Tetun - Lawyer for twenty three rebels, who were engaged in the assassination attempt on President Jose Ramos Horta on February 11th 2008, will make appeal to the Dili District Court as the decision made to sentence the rebels is not fair.

Public Defender, Manuel Sarmento, has said that the decision made to sentence rebels nine year up to sixteen years in prison is not fair and had not based on facts presented during the trial process.

“The court’s decision is contradict with the facts presented during the trial process, and therefore the final verdict made by the court is unbalanced,” Mr. Sarmento said.

Meanwhile, the lawyer, Jose Pedro Camoes, has said that they will make appeal to the court following the recent decision made by the court to sentence his clients is unfair.

Mr. Camoes made the comment following there is no evidence proof that the rebels had really involve in this stage.
