More concerns about Timor-Leste's judicial system

PUN and Fretilin concerned about the country’s judicial system Suara Timor Lorosa’e 2 March 2010 language source: Tetun -  The National Unity Party (PUN) and Fretilin MPs in a Parliamentary session have called for the Government to pay attention to the country’s judicial system following the recent social injustices that appeared in the trial process for the 2006 crisis.

The National Unity Party (PUN) President, Fernanda Borges, has said that all the people are the same in the front of law and therefore she called for the state to named an independent Prosecutor who will conduct its role to see the 2006 crisis case that had recommended by the Timorese Human Right and Justice Ombudsmen (PDHJ).

Mrs. Borges was also concerned about the decision by the Public Prosecution to file three thousand criminal cases including the case of distributing weapon to the civilians.

Meanwhile, Fretilin MP, Domingos Sarmento, has said that the country’s judicial system has not worked properly as there are thousands of criminal cases been filed since 2006 up to 2009.
