Cuban doctor knifed by unknown person in Manatuto

Radio Timor-Leste, February 3, 2011 language source: Tetun - A Cuban Doctor named Gisela Hernandez Garcia who is currently working in Manatuto was stabbed by an unknown person on Thursday (3/2) in the early morning.

The victim's fellow-doctor, Luis Angela Martinez, confirmed that Doctor Garcia has serious injuries after she was stabbed in the chest by an unidentified man in her residence.

Martinez explained that the suspect has not yet been identified because he escaped from the scene after  the incident.

Such a situation has caused the Cuban doctors who are working at Manatuto Hospital to lose confidence in the people of Manatuto.

Local residents call on all sides to hunt the suspected man down Radio Timor-Leste, February 3, 2011 language source: Tetun - Local residents of Manatuto district have called on all sides in the area to cooperate with the police to find the male suspect who stabbed the Cuban doctor on Thursday morning.

The top leader of the veterans in Manatuto, Candido Soares, said the male suspect has violated her human rights and has not recognised the Cuban doctors' contribution to Timor-Leste.

Soares called on all sides in the district of Manatuto to hunt the suspect down so that he is processed through legal proceedings. ,

Manatuto Investigation Police Deputy Commander Leopoldina Rodrigues said the police are investigating the case and gathering information from local residents on the whereabouts of the suspect.
