Government plans to deploy military in the districts Timor Post, August 10, 2012 -  The Fifth constitutional Government plans to deploy the military in the districts.

The State Secretary for Defence (SED), Julio Thomas Pinto said the Government had discussed with the Armed Forces Command about the deployment of the military in all districts of the country.

“The priority for this year is how to deploy F-FDTL members in each district, but it is still under discussion and we hope to implement this plan next year,” he said.

Police gun lost at prostitution site Independete August 10, 2012 -  Based on an unnamed source from the Timorese National Police (PNTL), the poice gun that was recently lost was believed to have gone missing at a prostitution site on 30 of July 2012 during a visit to the prostitution premises by the PNTL Commander.

State Secretary for Security (SES) Francisco Guterres said he has ordered the PNTL general commander to suspend the officer who lost the gun.

“Yesterday we held a meeting with PNTL’s administration chief to find out the problems of logistic management and facilities maintenance of the police,”

“We will create a new law to regulate the PNTL members when using the police vehicles so that officers are responsible while driving them,” he said.

Guterres added in relation to missing police weapons, there was currently an investigation under way to suspend the officer who lost his gun.

“We have held investigation and I will publicise to the results. I have ordered the general commander to suspend the suspect,” he said.

Guteres called on the people to be calm while the police search for the missing weapons in capital, Dili.

Government to stop purchase of MP5 type weapons for PNTL Timor Post, August 10, 2012 -  The State Secretary for Security, Fransisco Guterres has cancelled to purchase of 75 MP5 weapons for the police from the supplier company, PT. PINDET, because the weapons were of poor qualify.

He said that further tests of the weapons would be done as initial tests has shown that they were of sub-standard quality.

“We have not received the rest of the weapons yet because we want to test them further, therefore we asked for the company to take the rest of the weapons back,” he said.

Identifying the land to construct a new building is a top priority of SED Diario Nacional August 10, 2012 -  State Secretary for Defence (SED) Julio Tomas Pinto said the top priority plan to implement in 2012-2017 was to identify land to construct a new building for the Timorese Defence Force (F-FDTL) and to prepare a new organic law for F-FDTL.

“SED’s top priority is to identify the land and prepare the design to set up a new construction for F-FDTL,” he said.
