Fundasaun Mahein (FM): Welcome the New Government

East Timor Legal News 09/08/2012 Source: Fundasaun Mahein - Fundasaun Mahein (FM) would like to welcome the new government of Timor-Leste. FM is happy to be partners with the new ministers in the security and defense. We hope the new ministers can continue upon the progress of the past government, and we urge the new government to maintain the previous government’s focus on security and defense as development cannot proceed without security and stability.

Fundasaun Mahein (FM) also hopes the new government will learn from the gaffes of the previous government. This includes the Porto Hera scandal, the development of “white books” of policing guidelines, and improved transparency and management of PNTL and F-FDTL equipment and weapons. Management is a key issue as 80% of the PNTL officers work in the Districts but most of the PNTL equipment is concentrated in Dili. If the equipment is not equally distributed, the PNTL will not achieve optimal results in policing.

FM calls for the public to join in welcoming the new government. Together we share the hope that the new government will accelerate development in Timor-Leste. We hope the new government can create more jobs for Timorese citizens. In particular, we hope for more jobs for the young people of Timor-Leste so they can become more involved in the process of development. In this way, perhaps, we can move towards guaranteeing national stability.
