Justice Minister Babo-Soares: Witnesses should not fear testifying - The Minister for Justice, Dionisio Babo-Soares has appealed to all citizens who are to appear in court to give evidence should not be afraid to appear in court and testify. Suara Timor Lorosae reported the Minister's comments today.

The Minister said that the testimony of witnesses is very important for defending the truth. “We are currently preparing a submission about a witness protection law and it is about to be completed and it will be taken to the Council of Ministers for approval,” he said.

The Minister also called on the Government to implement the law after approval as it was essential to protect witnesses.

Comoro community leaders call for setting up security post - Following several incidents of violence in the capital city, Dili, community leaders in the suburb of Comoro have appealed to the police to set up a security post in the area.


Suara Timor Lorosae reported today that the Village Chief of Mate Lahotu, Ana Paula Martins said that there were 31 sub-villages in the suburb who wanted the police to establish a security post to help prevent any future outbreaks of violence.

Mrs Martins confirmed that the local authorities had held a dialogue with the police about the recent violence and to request the police to set up the security post in potential conflict areas.
