ETLJB 06 October 2012 The United States Marine Corps, the United States Navy and the East Timor Defence Forces will participate in a joint training exercise commencing on 10 October 2012. The joint training exercise will be known as Crocodilo 2012 and will last for 7 days during which both countries' military forces will work together on not only building their capacities to operate jointly but will also engage in community activities. The operation will include military police training, boat handling, jungle warfare, aviation and planning.

"These training programs provide opportunities to share knowledge, establish personal and professional relationships, and strengthen our military and civil partnership with Timor-Leste," said United States Ambassador to Timor-Leste Judith R. Fergin. "Additionally, joint exercises such as Crocodilo 2012 improve Pacific security, which is an interest that Timor-Leste, the United States, and neighbors in the region share."

The United States forces will also provide medical and dental assistance to East Timorse citizens and collaborate on construction and rehabilitation projects. Exercise Crocodilo activities will take place in Dili, Metinaro, Manatutu, Hera, Liquica, and Baucau, according to press release from the United States Embassy in Dili.
