Government expresses condolences after tragic accident

It was with deep regret the Government received news of the passing of Aquilino Santos Caeiro, Daniel J. Groshong and Ruth Klaasje after a tragic road accident on Saturday.

On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo offered his deep condolences to their families, friends and colleagues at this time of great loss.

Each of these people were devoted in their service to Timor-Leste and made important contributions to the Nation.

Aquilino Santos Caeiro, a son of Timor-Leste, was Director General at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Daniel J. Groshong, a native of Oregon, USA, was a veteran journalist, professional photographer and founder of the Hummingfish Foundation. Ruth Klaasje, a native of the Netherlands, was a writer, learning specialist and language trainer.

Spokesperson, Minister of State Agio Pereira, noted “these wonderfully compassionate people each served Timor-Leste with such energy and kindness. At this time of loss we declare our solidarity with their families, friends and colleagues and pay tribute to the legacy of their service, a legacy that will endure for generations.”ENDS
