The USS Pelilau will participate in joint training with Timor-Leste |
"These training programs provide opportunities to share knowledge, establish personal and professional relationships, and strengthen our military and civil partnership with Timor-Leste," said United States Ambassador to Timor-Leste Judith R. Fergin. "Additionally, joint exercises such as Crocodilo 2012 improve Pacific security, which is an interest that Timor-Leste, the United States, and neighbors in the region share."
The United States forces will also provide medical and dental assistance to East Timorse citizens and collaborate on construction and rehabilitation projects. Exercise Crocodilo activities will take place in Dili, Metinaro, Manatutu, Hera, Liquica, and Baucau, according to press release from the United States Embassy in Dili.
The United States Navy is bringing three ships to Timor-Leste for this exercise: USS Peleliu (250 meters long), USS Rushmore (190 meters long), and USS Green Bay (208 meters long).
