Killing babies is a crime, says Bishop Nacimento

The Virgin Mary, Dili, East Timor
Radio Timor-Leste, February 1, 2011 language source: Tetun - The  Bishop for Baucau Diocese, Monsignor Basilio do Nacimento, said that Timorese citizens who kill their babies are committing a criminal act and it is against the Catholic Church's rules and other applicable laws in the country.

The bishop made the comments after meeting with Prime Minister Xanana Gummao at the Palace of the Government on Monday (31/1).

Bishop Nacimento affirmed that the Catholic Church strongly condemns such actions and calls for a legal process in such cases. The Dili Diocese has set up a clinic to help care for babies who have been abandoned by their parents.
