|The East Timor Court of Appeal|
Pereira was nominated by the National Congress for the Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), while another candidate Duarte Tilman was nominated by the Democratic Party (PD).
MP Adriano Nacimento from the PD Party said he is displeased with the result of the vote, as all CNRT and Fretilin Party MPs voted for Ms. Pereira.
MP Duarte “Dusai” said they voted for Pereira, as she is an experienced legal practitioner in the country.
Parliamentary President Fernando “Lasama” de Araujo said the Parliament conducted this vote according to the Article 125 of the Constitution.
Maria and Duarte are excellent judges.Tiago Sarmento would also make an excellent jurist.Judge Jacinta is an excellent judge. The future of the Timor Leste judiciary is in good hands!
You need to read the transcript of Gusmao's speech in parliament (Oct 2009), in reply to Fretilin's no confidence motion - after the unlawful release from custody of Maternus Bere on 30 August 2009.
How can Maria Natercia be an "excellent" judge if she facilitated the commission of a crime by the Prime Minister?
Timor-Leste - a country without accountability.
In 2005, Australian judge Shane Marshall said this about the serious crimes committed in 2009:
"...this failure to prosecute is even more alarming when
considered in the light of the fact that the 95 indictments filed
in the SPSC account for only 572 of the estimated 1,400 people
killed in the violence of 1999."
But today that same Australian judge praises an East Timorese judge (Maria Natercia) who in 2009 was complicit in the unlawful release from Becora prison of Maternus Bere - a man who was in 2003 indicted for murdering Maubere during the Suai Church Massacre (6 Sep't 2009).
