ETLJB 05 April 2013 -
Timorese lawyers have strongly protested the presence of
international lawyers in Timor-Leste as it was like
an invasion against Timorese legal advisors’ profession.
Timorese Lawyer Pedro Aparicio said they were unhappy with the
presence of large numbers of international lawyers.
Mr. Aparicio affirmed that some of them had not yet obtained a licence to practice but
were already practicing in Dili.
“77 international lawyers have been registered, but the numbers will be
increasing. Some of them have not yet obtained a licence, but are appearing in the courts,” he said. Source: Televizaun Timor-Leste 28 March 2013 Edited by Warren L. Wright
