Police investigate officers suspected of beating woman in Baukau

East Timor Legal News Source 01/09/2011 Source: Indepedente August 29, 2011 PNTL investigates its officers who beat women language source: Tetun - The Timorese National Police (PNTL) through the Department of Justice has begun investigating its officers who are suspected of being involved in the assault of a lady, Odete Vareilha, in the eastern city of Baucau recently.

Police Commander Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro said had received allegations and claims from the victim Vareilha about the case.

"The General Commands has officially received claims from the victim about the incident in Baucau," he said.

The PNTL command has submitted the claims to the Department of Justice to hold investigations into the case, he said.

According to him, investigations into officers allegedly committing crimes will be thorough.
