Number of journalists threatened in election process

Radio Timor-Leste, May 4, 2012 language source: Tetun - President of the Timorese Journalists Association (AJTL), Tito Filipe said during the process presidential election a number of the journalists were threatened physically and physiologically.

Mr. Filipe made the comments during the ceremony for commemorating international press day which was held on Thursday (3/5) on the beach in front of the Palace of the Government.

He affirmed that during the political campaigns, members of certain presidential candidate promotion teams threatened the journalist and seized their tape recorder. On the other hand certain group of people also distributed publically a poison pen letter, alleging Radio Rakambia of damaging certain presidential candidate’s image, he said.
