ETLJB 03 November 2012 - According to a report published on Timor News Line published on 8 May 2012, members of a martial arts group, dressed in full uniform, descended on the Bebonuk home of Dili District Police Commander Pedro Belo on the afternoon of 7 May 2012, attacking two his nephews with machetes.
The report notes that "[t]he boys, who were playing in front of the commander’s home when the attackers struck about 2 pm, were seriously injured' but the "martial arts group members failed to gain access to house itself, which was protected by a high fence."
At an extra-ordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on 7 May, the Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmao, gave the Timorese National Police (PNTL) permission to shut down the activities of a martial art group and “bola Guling” gambling centers in Dili because of their connections to violence, the report adds.
