ETLJB 06 November 2012 - The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative in East Timor, Finn Reske-Nielsen, has made a statement reminding the police to respect citizen's fundamental rights when they respond to any situation which requires their intervention.
Jornal Independente reported yesterday that Mr Reske-Nielson said that although the United Nations mission in East Tior will end in December 2012, the United Nations agencies will continue to monitor human rights and democracy in Timor-Leste.
“I call on PNTL to respect fundamental human rights and to promote the value of democracy in Timor-Leste,” he said.
