Parliament is concerned about guns distributed by PNTL in 2006

East Timor Legal News 12/08/2011 Source: Diario Nacional - The Parliamentary Committee B for Defence and Security is concerned about guns distributed by the Timorese National Police (PNTL) in 2006, says Cornelio da Conceicao "L-7" Gama.

The member of Committee B made the statements regarding widespread  information that there are many illegal guns still at large in the country.

"These guns have been recalled or not? The guns belong to veterans who are identifiabe. We know how many there are."

"We question why many guns were distributed by PNTL and are not recalled yet and how about this?"

"If in the future we receive any guns in demobilization, we will not tell it, because we are not working with the state," L-7 said.

He added that they have no power to talk about recalling illegal guns as it is the competence of the Timorese National Police and the Timorese Defence Force (F-FDTL) to recall them.
