East Timor Legal News 05/03/2012 Source: Belun 28 February 2012 PRESS RELEASE - This Friday, March 2, Belun will launch its national online Electoral Mapping System (EMS) at Hotel Timor from 10am – 11:30am.

The latest addition to Belun’s Early Warning Early Response (EWER) program, the system is derived from the Ushahidi platform, focusing on democratizing information, increasing transparency and lowering communication barriers via community information sharing.

The EMS aims to increase the timeliness of data presented from the EWER program during the election period and will be launched with the assistance of the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

The information will be used to inform state, civil society and international actors relevant to conflict prevention and response, enabling a swifter response to incidents of conflict or violence. The EMS also seeks to increase transparency and accountability of political parties and their commitment to peace and stability for the duration of the campaign period.

The situational monitoring will run from March until August across both the 2012 presidential and parliamentary electoral periods of Timor-Leste. The session will consist of a 30-minute presentation, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session. Please arrive punctually to ensure your seat.
