President Horta: Pardons for convicted rebels are based on the Government's list

Timor Post April 8, 2010 language source: Tetun - President Jose Ramos Horta has said that it is true that he had prerogative power to grant pardon to any prisoner, but, he said the process of pardoning prisoners was coming from the Government and not from the president.

The list of prisoners to be pardoned was prepared and sent to the president by the Government and I can show you whose names of those who are elibible for a pardon,” President Horta said.

President Horta also called on the public to consult with PM Gusmao about the pardoning process for prisoners that is going to happen in May, August, November and December.

President Horta also refused to hit back at recent statemenst made by some MPs that President Horta grants pardons to prisoners based on his own will.
