450 cases concluded in the Courts in 2011

East Timor Legal News Source: The Dili Weekly 10 July 2012 14:08 Written by Venidora Oliveira - A total number of 450 cases were heard in the Dili, Baucau, Suai and Oecussi District Courts in 2011.

“450 cases were registered at the District Courts and sentences were duly handed out,” Justice Sector Monitoring Program’s (JSMP), Executive Director, Luis de Oliveira Sampaio, (29/06), in Colmera, Dili.

These 450 cases range from petty crime, to domestic violence, incest as well as others,” said the JSMP Director.

Parliamentary Commission B President Duarte Nunes commended JSMP’s contribution to the Justice Sector.

“From this number of cases one can say the people and the community at large are finally putting their trust on the Justice system, by making use of the courts to solve their issues,” said the MP. He acknowledged court procedures were lengthy and tedious and he appealed to the people for patience and understanding.
