One person killed during Monday's violence: PNTL commander

Timor Newsline, July 16, 2012 - The Timorese National Police (PNTL) Commander, Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro said one person was killed during the Monday (16/7) violence.

The commander made the comments during a press conference which was held at PNTL headquarters on Monday (16/7) in Dili.

Mr. Monteiro affirmed that 63 cars were destroyed, seven houses were torched and five police officers seriously wounded in the weekend's violence.

"63 cars were destroyed; seven houses were set on fire. Unfortunately five police officers seriously wounded," he explained.

He said that the police was currently launching investigation into the death of the person died this morning to uncover what the cause was.

Commander also called on the community, political parties' leaders and all the leaders of the state not to use provocative language when making comments.
