East Timor Legal News Source: The Dili Weekly  11 July 2012 12:04 Written by Venidora Oliveira - The National Police or Polisia Nasional Timor-Leste (PNTL) has filed the case where a police officer was accused of being involved in political campaigning in the lead up to the parliamentary elections.

“He was not representing the PNTL, he was simply taking part as an artist, and also because he was invited by the organizing committee,” said Commissioner Afonso de Jesus PNTL’s Second Commander (05/07), in Caicoli Dili.
According to him, PNTL will make a formal statement after the parliamentary elections,
PNTL members should not be involved at all, but it’s another issue when the officer in question was participating as an artist, yet this matter should still be examined closely.

“I believe the Commander can take the necessary measures to deal with any officer not abiding by the regulations, however if the officer in question was there as a guest artist and at the time he wasn’t officially representing the PNTL, it’s another matter,” said MP Martins.

The MP hopes the PNTL Commander will take appropriate measures, thus, to ensure PNTL members act more professionally.
