Televizaun Timor-Leste, March 11, 2010 language source: Tetun - The former Timorese Human Rights and Justice Ombudsman Sebastiao Dias Ximenes had been re-elected by the National Parliament.
MP Arsenio Paixao Bano from Fretilin said he was confident Mr. Ximenes would carry out the functions of ombudsman in an optimal way and for a better future.
“I hope that Mr. Ximenes will conduct his work well in the future,” Mr. Bano said.
Meanwhile, MP Natalino dos Santos from the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) called on Mr. Ximenes to carry out his duties impartially and independently
MP Rui Menezes from Democratic Party (PD) said that the two candidates for ombudsman were Mr. Sebastiao Dias Ximenes and Ivo Jorge Valente and the appointment by the Parliamentary vote was an act of democracy.
Mr. Ximenes was elected by the Parliamentarians with the total vote of 35 while only 21 votes were cast for Mr. Valente.
