Timorese military should be held responsible for arming civilians in 2006 crisis says Lawyer Sergio Hornai

Televizaun Timor-Leste March 2, 2010 language source: Tetun -  A Timorese lawyer Sergio Hornai said that the general command of the F-FDTL should be held responsible for arming civilians in 2006 crises.

However, Brigadier General Lere Anan Timor said that the F-FDTL is ready to be held responsible for the arming of the reservist but will not be responsible for any crimes taking place on May 25 2006.

“The F-FDTL command never instructed anyone to shoot civilians,” Lere added.

Regarding the decision of the court against Ki’ak and Alberto, Lere said that there should be more investigation into the case of 25 May 2006 because there were three different armed groups at that time.
