JSMP considers the decision of the fair

Suara Timor Lorosa’e, March 5, 2010   language source: Tetun - The Timorese Judicial System and Monitoring Program (JSMP) and Timorese Human Right Association (HAK) have considered the recent decision made by the court to sentence the ex rebels is fair.

The Dili District Court has decided to sentence the ex-rebel leader, Gastão Salsinha, ten years and eight months in prison and his followers nine years in prison, whereas those rebels who engage in the assassination attempt on President Jose Ramos Horta at his residence will face sixteen years imprisonment.

The JSMP Director, Luis Oliveira, has said that the decision made by the Court was based on the evidences found during the trial process.

Mr. Oliveira also called for the country’s Prosecutor General to collaborate with the National Police and create a lawyer team to analyze the allegation made in order to uncover the truth who is the perpetrator of shooting the President Horta following the bullet used on the president is sill mystery as the bullet use on president is different with the bullets owned by the ex-rebel leader, Alfredo Reinado, and his followers.
