ABC Online, April 9, 2010 - Lawyers have confirmed that public prosecutors in East Timor have appealed against last month's acquittal of the Timorese-born Australian woman Angelita Pires.
Ms Pires was found not guilty of charges of conspiring to kill East Timor president Jose Ramos-Horta in an attack in February 2008.
A panel of three judges concluded there was not enough evidence to convict her. One of the Australian lawyers acting for Ms Pires says the prosecution has lodged an appeal against the verdict.
Ms Pires has described the appeal as ludicrous.
