Government publicizes Timor's Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister’s SMS

Radio & Televizaun Timor-Leste, April 13, 2010 language source: Tetun - The Timorese Government through the State Secretary for the Council of Ministers has officially publicized the Short Message Service (SMS) of the Timorese Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Zacarias Albano da Costa.

Pereira has confirmed that Foreign Minister da Costa had really sent an SMS to Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão on last March 27th where the content of the SMS was about his resignation from his political post as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

“Minister Zacarias Albano da Costa has sent an SMS to Prime Minister’s Advisors saying that the Council of Ministers has quit his post and therefore he has no alternative to present his resignation letter to the Government, but his wanted to talk with PM Gusmão directly about this case,” State Secretary Pereira explain the content of the SMS.

Pereira added that PM Gusmao was dissatisfied with the Minister da Costa’s attitude because he had not consult with the Government, his party other state leaders before he announce his resignation through SMS.

The Government through the State Secretary Pereira has called on the Minister da Costa to present his resignation letter.

“PM Gusmao said that he can send his resignation letter. I do not want to be threatened by any minister. What I wander is we have to govern and serve the people with our humbleness and humility,” Pereira restated PM Gusmao’s words.

This polemic appeared because Minister da Costa dissatisfied with the invitation made by the Council of Minister to the Timorese foreign ambassadors to participate in the Dili International Dialog, but the invitation made was unknown to him.
