Horta: “Establishment of an international tribunal will affect TL-Indonesia relationship”

Radio Timor-Leste, April 12, 2010 language source: Tetun - President Jose Ramos Horta has said that establishment of an international tribunal for Timor-Leste will badly affect the relationship of Timor-Leste and Indonesia in the future.

“The country’s security will be shaken if international tribunal is going to be established in the country and the relationship between Indonesia and Timor-Leste will be distant,” President Horta said.

President Horta made the comment Friday during the G7+ Dili International Dialogue on peace-building and state-building.

President Horta said that state leaders will continue holding dialog with its closest neighboring country Indonesia in order to avoid bad implication to the local resident who are staying near the border as well as the Timorese students who are studying in Indonesia.

President Horta also said that the state leaders of both governments have obligation to find best way to contribute to the security of their citizens.
