Timor Parliament sets up a joint investigation commission into police attack on civilian on Atauro Island


Diario Nacional, January 27, 2010 language source: Tetun The Parliament has set up a joint commission to launch an investigation into of the Timorese National Police (PNTL) officers who are believed to have been engaged in assaulting a resident on tauro Island.

The joint commission was established because the Parliament had received many questions about the allegations against the PNTL officers brutal and unprovoked attack on a local young man.

Deputy Parliamentary President Vicente Guterres said the establishment of the joint commission was important to discover what had really happened on Atauro.

MP Antonino Bianco said the conduct of some police officers on Atauro violated human rights and said those officers should be processed legally.
