East Timor massacre suspect moved

02/09/09 Last Updated: 18 hours 8 minutes ago Radio Australia News - The Indonesian Embassy in Dili has confirmed an Indonesian citizen accused of being part of a massacre in East Timor in 1999 was moved from Dili's prison on Sunday.

Martenus Bere was arrested in East Timor after he legally entered the country two weeks ago.

Victor Sambuaga, an Indonesian embassy official in Dili, says Mr Bere was moved from the prison to the Indonesian embassy on Sunday - the day East Timor celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its independence referendum.

Mr Sambuaga says Indonesia is trying to negotiate for Mr Bere to be deported to Indonesia.

"Based on his nationality it is the obligation for the Indonesian Government, including our embassy in Dili, to give protection and best service to our Indonesian nationals abroad," Mr Sambuaga said.
